Ogun state promises retirees prompt pension payment

Ogun State Government has re-assured the pensioners in the state of prompt payment of their pensions and improve on their welfare packages as they have worked hard and contributed their qouta to the development of the state.

The State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Adewale Oshinowo, gave this assurance in an interview with newsmen in Abeokuta against the backdrop of attacking and locking him up in the office by aggrieved pensioners in the state.

Oshinowo said the pensioners registered their grievances to his office on their May salary which has been paid but was yet to be credited to their accounts then by their various banks, noting that Governor Ibikunle Amosun-led administration would never intend to delay their pensions for any reason.

A statement from the State government and made available to Business247 today quoted Oshinowo as saying: “What happened was that we moved account from the jack account to the Bureau of Pension in order to pay the banks involved through the lead bank which had been done since, maybe due to a communication gap the Bureau of Pensions failed to communicate with them.”.

While emphasising on the government’s commitment to the pensioners and workers’ welfare in the state, he said government would never jettison it’s responsibility on prompt payment of pension and workers’ salary, adding that workers should be expecting their June salary any moment, from their various banks to enable them celebrate Eid-il-Fitri.

Speaking on behalf of the pensioners, the Chairman of Local Government Pensioners in the State, Chief Sikiru Ayilara confirmed that they have received their May pension, saying the June and subsequent months should be paid as at when due..

“We didn’t lock up or out the Finance Commissioner for the state and his staff against the speculation on some newspapers, we just registered our grievances and pains for not receiving our May pension in time” Ayilara submitted.

He appreciated the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and his Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Adewale Oshinowo for their tight schedule spare to address their plight and prompt payment of their pensions. According to him, ‘we are comfortable now, but we plea with the State Government to continue paying our subsequent pensions without any further delay.’
