FOWOSO Women Empowerment: Monarch commends Akeredolu

Wife of Ondo State Governor and Initiator of Forum for Wives of Ondo State Officials (FOWOSO), Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has been commended for her relentless efforts in changing the lives of the less privileged women and youths in Ondo State through her ongoing FOWOSO empowerment Outreach.

The traditional ruler of Ile-Oluji Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba (Dr) Julius Oluwole Olufaderin Adetimehin, gave the commendation while receiving the Sunshine State First Lady and FOWOSO members when they paid him homage in his palace before the  programme proper.

The 31st Jegun Olu Ekun of Ile-Oluji Kingdom said: “We appreciate all the good gestures of the government of Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and in particular his life companion in the First Lady, for the good job he started since he assumed office as the Executive Governor of Ondo State.

“I like to say it loud and clear that this government and in particular Her Excellency has remained our number one development partner. You would be wondering why I am saying this. Well,  we have  never had anything like this. In my own reign and tenure this is the first one we are seeing. So, Your Excellency, we are most grateful for this.”

Oba Adetimehin requested for more of such empowerment programmes and prayed God to empower Mrs Akeredolu to continue with her good works in Ondo state. He also promised that his cabinet, in collaboration with the local government, will set up a monitoring unit to ensure that the beneficiaries of the empowerment items put them into good use, so that the aim of the empowerment will not be defeated.

The 9th edition of FOWOSO empowerment outreach took place at the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo local government playground. FOWOSO  empowerment package, which is scheduled to hold in the 18 local government areas of the state, includes: skill acquisition such as bead making, makeup and makeovers, homemade cleaning materials, etc. Others are breast self-examination awareness and accelerated birth registration.

The programme featured cultural displays, parade by National Youth Service Corps members, and special presentation by students and pupils in the area. Highlight of the event was the presentation of laptops and other empowerment materials such as grinding machines, sewing machines, hair dryers and other startup kits and certificates to the trainees.

The well attended programme had in attendance the wife of the SSG, Mrs Abegunde; Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo local government chairman, Hon. Dayo Akinsuroju; local government chairmen of Akure South and Ilaje local governments, top government functionaries, Ondo state APC woman leader and other party chieftains; FOWOSO members and BRECAN members; amongst others.
