N292.44bn recovers from 33 federal agencies -Adeosun

A Federal Government audit report on 33 revenue yielding agencies  have so far yielded a recovery of N292.44 billion from  non-disclosure of actual revenues accruing to them.

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, made the disclosure on Thursday  at  a media briefing where she said the government was about to recover about N450 billion operating surpluses that were not remitted by 33 agencies from 2010 to 2015.

She pointed out that  audit had been carried out on the agencies in compliance with the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA), 2007 adding that a recovery committee headed by the Accountant General of the Federation had been set up to recover the money from the agencies.

The minister explained that an audit of the thirty-three revenue generating agencies, discovered that many generating agencies have consistently refused to remit their operating surplus into government coffers.

The revenue generating agencies include: Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC); Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA);  Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA);  Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC); Industrial Training Fund (ITF);  Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN); Nigeria Airspace Management Agency ( NAMA);  Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC);  National Examination Council (NECO);  West Africa Examination Council (WAEC);  Joint Administrations and Matriculation Board  (JAMB).

Others include: Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM);  National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN); National Hospital Abuja; National Broadcasting Commission (NBC);  Nigeria Television Authority (NTA); Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS);  Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN);  National Teachers Institute.

Others are: University of Lagos Teaching Hospital; University College Hospital, Ibadan, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Ig­bobi, Lagos, University of Lagos, University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital; National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control; National Centre for Women Development; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; Nigeria Shipper’s Council; University of Benin; University of Ilorin; University of Ibadan;  Bayero University, Kano.

Adeosun, however, disclosed that some of the agencies had started returning various sums, saying that N640 million had been received from the Nigeria Shippers Council.
