Nigerian bourse down 2.8% for the week

 

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE)  All-Share Index and Market Capitalization depreciated by 2.38 per cent last week to close the week at 32,124.94 and N11.728 trillion respectively.

Similarly, all other indices finished lower with the exception of the NSE ASeM index that closed flat.

Eighteen (18) equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than Twenty six (26) in the previous week. Fifty (50) equities depreciated in price, higher than Forty-two (42) of the previous week, while one hundred and one (101) equities remained unchanged the same with one hundred and one (101) equities recorded in the preceding week.

A total turnover of 1.267 billion shares worth N20.346 billion in 15,088 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of the Exchange in contrast to a total of 1.454 billion shares valued at N15.263 billion that exchanged hands last week in 16,682 deals.

The Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with1.082 billion shares valued at N12.735 billion traded in 8,397 deals; thus contributing 85.38% and 62.59% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

The Consumer Goods Industry followed with 83.168 million shares worth N 3.295 billion in 2,888 deals. The third place was Conglomerates Industry with a turnover of 32.817 million shares worth N 109.846 million in 654 deals.

Trading in the top-three equities namely – First City Monument Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc, (measured by volume) accounted for 670.295 million shares worth N11.019 billion in 2,768 deals, contributing 52.90 per cent and 54.16 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

Also traded during the week were a total of 15,168 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N216,251 executed in 9 deals compared with a total of 280,563 units valued at N3.385 million that was transacted last week in 10 deals.

A total of 14,581 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N14.472 million were traded this week in 34 deals compared with a total of 20,430 units valued at N20.729 million transacted last week in 45 deals.
