Atiku condemns Sowore’s arrest, calls it a breach of constitutional guarantees

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election, Atiku Abubakar, has added his voice to the list of Nigerians who have condemned the arrest of Omoyele Sowore by Operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS).

Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) was whisked away by DSS agents in the early hours of Saturday.

His arrest may not be unconnected to his call for a revolution against the Nigerian government, to protest what he describes as misrule and suffering of the people.

Reacting on his twitter handle, Atiku, a former Vice President, states that the action of the security operatives was a kidnap in the guise of arrest.

According to him, “Freedom of speech is not only constitutionally guaranteed; it is the substructure of our democracy. These kidnappings in the guise of arrests stands condemned. -AA”.

The Nigerian government or the DSS is yet to react to news and widespread condemnation of Sowore’s arrest
