Tribunal dismisses PDP’s petition, affirms Ganduje as duly elected Kano governor
Kano State governorship election tribunal has affirmed the candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr.Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as the winner of March 23, 2019 governorship election in the state, thereby dismissing the petition of the candidate of People Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Kabir Abba Yusuf.
The chairman of the tribunal, Justice Halima Shamaki, while ruling on Wednesday, on the petition filed by the PDP, on the issue of the election being inconclusive, said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had authority to cancel elections where there was crisis and or declare an election inconclusive.
According to Justice Samaki, there was no enough ground to grant the request of the PDP, hence, the need to dismiss its prayers jointly sought by its candidate, Alhaji Yusuf.
He also said that INEC as a constituted authority has the authority to issue a certificate of return to the governor, having won the March 23rd 2019 re-run election.
The Chairman of PDP in the state, Alhaji Rabiu Bichi, has said the party will study the judgment for it to know the next line of action to take.
