Shehu Sani mocks Nigeria’s World Bank rating on Ease of Doing Business
- says, ‘O ya, come do business with ease’
The Senator who represented Kaduna Central at the Eighth Senate has challenged anyone who believes in Nigeria’s current ranking on the ease of doing business to visit the country to actually do so.
The Presidency had announced on Thursday that Nigeria had moved up 15 spots on the global Ease of Doing Business index released by the World Bank.
The ‘Doing Business Index’ is an annual ranking that objectively assesses prevailing business climate conditions across 190 countries based on 10 ease of doing business indicators.
The ranking captures ease of doing business reforms that have been validated by the private sector and offers comparative insights based on private sector validation in the two largest commercial cities in countries with a population higher than 100 million.
Lagos and Kano states were profiled.
In the new ranking, Nigeria is now ranked 131 out of 190 countries, compared to its 146th place last year.
The World Bank Report also revealed that Nigeria is now one of the top 10 most improved economies in the world for the second time in three years.
Nigeria is one of only two African countries to be thus ranked.
Pooh-poohing the rating, Sani took to his verified Twitter handle @ShehuSani on Thursday, saying:
“If you believe the rating that we are among the best in the “ease of doing business”, oya come and do the business with ease”.
