Those who spent N5.2bn in 3 weeks have case to answer – Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde on Saturday said those who spent the N5.2 billion received by the state between May 6 and 29, 2019, leaving a balance of N19, 000 have questions to answer on how the money was spent.

Makinde, who disclosed this during the quarterly media chat hosted by the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) in Ibadan said if he revealed some information, some people would not be able to walk in the state.

Makinde said: “It is true that when we came on board the finances of the state were nothing to write home about. We cannot disclose the money we met because if we disclose it, they will not allow some people to walk in the streets. But if you look at it, up till now I still use my personal vehicles. All of us who are political office holders have not bought any official car. If we want to buy cars, we will be talking about N3 billion to N4 billion.

“What we prioritise now is people’s needs and masses’ welfare. When they gave us the mandate to serve the people, the first thing should not be our needs, but how we can stabilise the government in such a way that the people would be the first priority.

“I make bold to say it and those involved should take note of what I’m saying now. On May 6, 2019, three weeks to our coming into government, they collected N5.2b and they spent it to N19, 000 as of May 29, 2019.Those involved will still come and explain to the people of Oyo State how they spent it. That was what we met.”
