We can’t discard police checkpoint -Adejobi
The Nigeria Police Command has said checkpoints on highways in the country cannot be discarded for now.
This is contained in a statement by the police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Monday, noting that the excesses of Police officers at checkpoints need to be reviewed.
Adejobi made this known while disclosing the planned tours of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to all the states, which kicked off on Monday.
“IGP Tours Oyo, Lagos, addresses personnel on professionalism and quality service delivery.
Encourages Community Policing initiatives.
The tour commences today, Monday, August 21.
“We will visit all the states, and in most cases, we will move by road. We need to assess our roads and see what we can do to review road operations in Nigeria.
“We have made it known that we can’t, for now, afford to do away with check points along our highways, but we need to review them and check the excesses of the men on the road.”
He said unscheduled inspections of some areas will be made, and IGP is set to touch many areas, including the borders.
He added that other relevant security agencies, especially the Nigerian Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), will be part of the tour.
