Empowering Education: InnerWheel District 912 commissions new library, honors excellence
In a bid to enhance educational development, the Inner Wheel District 912, Nigeria, has commissioned a newly equipped library at St. John’s Anglican Primary School, Imota, Lagos State, while also recognising two distinguished personalities for their contributions to education and society.
The District Chairman, Mrs Abiola Aberuagba, led the commissioning ceremony, emphasizing that the initiative aimed to improve students’ learning environment and overall academic welfare.
The organisation honored HRM (Dr) Oba Mudashiru Bakare-Agroro, the Ranodu of Imota, and Col. (Rtd.) Dr Bolaji Onafowokan, who earned a Ph.D. at the remarkable age of 85.
Speaking at the event, Aberuagba stated that the awards recognised their outstanding achievements, leadership, resilience, and commitment to lifelong learning.
A Legacy of Giving Back
Aberuagba, an alumna of the school, expressed personal fulfillment in spearheading the renovation project, which included: roof and ceiling replacements, installation of new doors and windows, floor tiling, provision of brand-new furniture for 24 students and equipping the library with books, two laptops, bookshelves, uniforms, and three ceiling fans.
“This school played a significant role in shaping who I am today,” she said. “I promised that when I became District Chairman, I would ensure that the school gets the library it requested. Today, we have fulfilled that promise.”
Marking Inner Wheel Day with Service
The Chairperson of the Planning Committee, Mrs. Sumbo Osunbayo and co-chair, Mrs Charlotte Solano highlighted that the library project was part of activities celebrating International Inner Wheel Day 2025, observed annually on January 10.
Osunbayo recounted other service initiatives, including visits to Island Maternity Hospital—where gifts and cash were presented to the first two babies of the day—and Ajegunle Community in Ifelodun LCDA, where food items were distributed to over 400 residents.
“The library commissioning is the final phase of our outreach efforts, which is the Star Project for the year, and we are delighted to impact young lives through education,” she stated.
