ASUU, FG reach agreement to end strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government have reached an agreement at a closed-door meeting in the early hours of Friday in Abuja and have subsequently considered the government options to suspend the strike.
The meeting between the two parties which started about 1:38 pm on Thursday, ended early hours of Friday, after an agreement was reached between government representatives and members of the striking lecturers.
The leadership of ASUU though have accepted the proposal presented by the government, but in its characteristic manner, insists on taking the proposal to its members, as they promised to get back to the government in one week time.
The National President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, told journalists after the meeting that the union will come back after one week to take its final decisions. “Now we have some concrete proposal that we will take back to our members for consideration,” he said.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, also confirmed reaching an agreement with ASUU, stressing that the union has also proposed to get back to the government in a week after consulting with other members.
