Aregbesola pleads with insurance operators to facilitate quick economic recovery

The Executive Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has charged insurance operators in the country to deploy resources at their disposal to facilitate quick recovery of Nigeria’s economy.

The Governor, who lamented the state of Nigeria’s economy, tasked the leaderships of Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB), to work out modalities capable of rescuing Nigerian government out of the present economic doldrums.

Aregbesola, who noted this while playing host to the NCRIB delegations during a courtesy visit to his office at Osun State Government Secretariat, Osogbo, Osun State recently, suggested that one of the ways to salvage the nation from the scourge of the present economic disaster was for the professional bodies, especially, in insurance sector to institutionalise strategies and as well map-out realistic economic policies to mitigate the situation.

He stressed that all hands must be on deck to find possible solutions to the nation’s economic problems.

Reiterating that the nation was going through a tough economic situation, he called on the leadership of the council to come to the aid of the nation through the instrumentality of funds available in their coffers, to cushion the effect of backlog of debt.

Meanwhile, NCRIB President, Mr. Emmanuel Kayode Okunoren, who led the NCRIB delegation, urged government to embrace insurance as against doling out funds as palliative to cater for victims of floods, fire outbreak, attacks and some other common insurable calamities that befalls citizens.

“I reiterate here that such funds could have served a better purpose like infrastructural development and leave the compensation in the hands of insurance experts if insurance culture had been imbibed. In all over the world, only few countries that have paid close attention to the development of their insurances enjoy massive infrastructural and economical development,” he said.

Okunoren, who identified with the government on the effect of the present economic realities, however, applauded Governor Aregbesola for prudently and judiciously managing the meagre resources of the state for the betterment of her citizens.

He confirmed that the presence of the national team of the council has attested to the greater performances of the present administration most especially on infrastructural development.
