Adetu, ex-Guinness boss becomes independent director at Fidelity Bank

Fidelity Bank Plc has appointed former CEO of Guinness Nigeria PLC Mr. Sene Adetu as an independent director.
This is contained in a regulatory report filed by the bank with the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Tuesday Adetu’s appointment took effect from 22nd of April, 2016, following approval by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Adetu, a Nigerian and former Managing Director/CEO of Guinness Nigeria Plc is a corporate icon of immense private sector experience. He has had a distinguished 30 years of non-stop working career with multinational companies at home and abroad.
Adetu joined Diageo (the parent company of Guinness) in August 2006 and after a short stint in the UK office, again became the first ever African Managing Director/CEO and Vice Chairman of Guinness Ghana Breweries Ltd, based in Accra, Ghana.
In July 2009, Adetu was appointed Group Managing Director/CEO of East African Breweries Ltd – EABL (Diageo East Africa), listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange, EABL, a conglomerate of companies and the biggest company (by market capitalization) in Eastern Africa with a market value of about of $2.0bn.
He is a Chemical Engineering graduate of the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and holds an MBA (with specialisation in Marketing) from the same university. With a solid FMCG experience in Sales and Marketing and General Management spanning 27 years (in John Holt plc, The Coca-Cola Company and Diageo/Guinness plc), working in various countries across the African continent, Adetu has become an African icon in the business of managing Consumer Packaged Goods. He is reputed for causing the growth of, and inspiring, a new generation of African leaders.
