Ecobank bags International Sustainable Environment Certification

Ecobank Nigeria has bagged an international certification for Greenhouse Gas Auditing. The  internationally acclaimed  ‘‘Built on GHG Protocol’ certificate is the most widely used accounting tool issued by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). The Greenhouse Gas Auditing and Reporting was conducted on Ecobank head office premises using V4 Advisors’ tool that is in compliance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard and ISO14064-1, 2006.

Speaking at the presentation of certificate to Ecobank in Lagos recently, Managing Director of V4 Advisors, Mr. Abboud Souheil, said ‘Ecobank Nigeria is the first bank in Nigeria and middle Africa to adopt the GHG Protocol in conducting its Greenhouse Gas Audit, thus setting the benchmark for the financial services industry in Nigeria’. He stated that the certification clearly demonstrated the Bank’s support for a safer global environment.

Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria, Charles Kie, said the certification was a recognition of  Ecobank’s efforts at ensuring a sustainable global environment as it attest to the Bank’s commitment to ensuring a sustainable environment in line with international best practice. “This international certification is a product of a conscious and determined effort. It is even more gratifying that Ecobank is the first bank in Nigeria to conduct an Independent and Certified Greenhouse Gas Audit towards achieving a sustainable environment. As a bank, we will continue to work towards achieving a safer and sustainable environment”.

Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) provides international accounting tools for businesses and government entities to comprehend quantify and manage their Greenhouse Gas emission. The GHG Protocol was established in 1998 by the World Resource Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
