The Federal Government has been advised to create special micro finance banks to support the youths and the vulnerable with proper monitoring team so that it will not go the way of the defunct people’s bank
A member, House of Federal Representatives, representing Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu/Ijebu North East Federal Constituency, Honourable Odeneye Kehinde Olusegun, popularly called Ok, gave the advise at Arepo, Ogun state, while speaking with journalists.
According to him, “If we do not return into the system what was drawn from the system, the system will collapse so when people get funds and do not return it, others will not be able to benefit and so the system will collapse. Monitoring efforts should be put in place to monitor the borrowing and return of the borrowed funds”
Odeneye stated that if a micro finance bank is established many of the artisans such as vulcanisers, shoemakers, automobile mechanics, hairdressers, barbers, tailors and caterers who benefited from empowerment programme will have financial support from such bank.”There are some artisans who are very good at their vocation after their apprenticeship but financially handicapped to purchase the equipment needed to start their trade with such bank it will go a long way to reduce youths unrest in the society”
He noted that government alone cannot tackle the problem of unemployment in the country because there is various degree of unemployment. “We have people who are retrenched but are still able to work, we have graduates who are educated but have nowhere to work, and we have those who are into vocational training but have no financial backing to purchase working tools”
“The Federal Government should, without delay, put up a platform for massive infrastructural development such as roads and power supply. Also, government should include vocational training into school curriculum since the 6334 system has collapsed because the government do not properly understudy where the system was imported it into the country”.
According to him, there should be reorientation of the youths to be self employed rather than seeking government work because “most of the youths want quick money, they do not want to work before getting rich, even if you try to provide work for most of them, they are not ready to do it, they want to live in affluence without doing anything this is a serious challenge to the economy since the able bodied are not ready to contribute to the economy in terms of physical engagement hence all youths are now into gambling, betting, scam among others. The youths do not believe in government again what they want is free money from government which the government cannot provide”.
Odeneye said the president should have taken the advantage of the body language in the first three months when everything fall into places, there was stable electricity, even Abuja street light for the first time after installation became active. “The president would have received massive support from the people irrespective of any action taken then, but it allowed complacency to take over his government now we are back to square on. People have studied the President to know his weaknesses and they are taking advantage of that.”
