NSE ASI adds 0.84% as investors gain N79bn

The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) equities market segment reversed yesterday’s losses as key market indices added 0.84 per cent in contrast to a decline of 0.06 per cent recorded previously day.

The NSE All-Share Index specifically gained 229.33 basis points to close at 27,650.32 basis points, while the Market Capitalization gained N78.8 billion to close at N9.496 trillion in contrast to a decline of N5 billion recorded on Thursday when the market capitalization closed at N9.418 trillion.

Market breadth closed with 23 gainers to 21 losers as 7up Plc led the day’s advancing stocks with a growth of five per cent or N5.45 to close at N114.45 per share, Unilever Plc added 4.98 per cent or N1.83 to close at N38.58 per share,

Access Bank Plc improved by 4.87per cent or 26 kobo to close at N5.60 per share. NEM Plc gained 4.76per cent or N0.04 kobo to close at N0.88 kobo per share and UACN Plc appreciated by 4.68per cent or N0.89 kobo to close at N19.90 per share.

The appreciation recorded in these share prices amongst 18 others stocks were responsible for the growth recorded in the market indicators, trimming the year to date losses to -3.46 per cent.

NPF Microfinance Bank Plc led the days retreating stocks having dropped by five per cent or N0.05 kobo to close at N0.95 kobo per share, MRS Oil Plc lost 4.98 per cent or  N1.92 to close at N36.65 per share, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO) fell 4.97 per cent or N0.18 kobo to close at N3.44 per share, UAC-Prop Plc declined  by 4.85 per cent or N0.18 kobo to settle at N3.53 per share, and Continental Re-insurance Plc depreciated by 4.85 per cent or N0.05 kobo to close at N0.98 kobo per share.

The value of stocks traded on the NSE today was N2.8 billion compared to N3.603 billion worth of stocks on Thursday. 314.6 million shares were traded in 3,340 deals in contrast to 313.3 million shares exchanged in 2,883 deals previously.

The top three traded stocks were FBN Holdings Plc with the sale of 66.9 million shares worth N209.2 million, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc exchanged 50.6 million stocks worth N1.3 billion and Access Bank Plc that traded 38.8 million stocks valued at N216.7 million.
