Customs generate N207.8bn in 10 months

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Tincan Command has generated N207.8 billion from Tincan Port in Lagos in the last 10 months.

A breakdown of its  revenue showed that NCS realised about N24.86 billion in January, N16.86 billion in February; N17.22 billion in March; N14.34 billion in April;  N16.37 billion  in May;  N20.18 billion in June; N20.95 billion in July;  N26.2 billion in August,  N25.6 billion in September and N25.3 billion.

It was learnt that economic recession has drastically shrunk the level of imports coming into country. Also, it has been battling with false declaration, deliberate misapplication of harmonized system code on items among other infractions.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Uche Ejesieme, NCS   was able to collect the revenue   due to the innovative measures which include effective use of intelligence, synergy and very efficient revenue collection method that was adopted by its Controller, Comptroller Yussuf Bashar.

Also he said that the command said that National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA)    has confirmed that Nigerite Limited shipped in cocaine weighing 214.732kilogramme

The PRO recalled that the eight bags containing 25 pieces per bag each of unidentified substance found in 20 feet container marked CMAU 045195/0 ranked among the highest in terms of volume in the country in recent times.
