Senate refuses to confirm Magu as EFCC Chairman
The Senate has refused to confirm the nomination of Mr. Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, who addressed journalists after a closed-door session on Thursday, said the rejection was based on “security report.”
He said the rejection would be communicated to President Muhammadu Buhari to take further action.
Before the outright rejection, the closed door meeting by the Senators before the screening of the Acting Chairman, EFCC caused confusion at the Senate with two prominent lawmakers almost exchanging blows.
According to sources at the usual pre-session meeting of the principal officers, which held at the Senate President’s office, became rowdy as senators were said to have engaged themselves in a shouting match.
The Leader of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume and Senator Dino Melaye, who was said to be against Magu’s confirmation, engaged themselves at the meeting and it almost degenerated into an exchange of blows.
