Customs boss writes Senate, says can’t appear on Wednesday
The Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) Hameed Ali, has written the Senate, notifying the lawmakers he will not be able to appear before them on Wednesday as expected.
The Senate Clerk read Mr. Ali’s letter on Tuesday.
The Customs boss was summoned last Thursday by the Upper House to appear on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 over the planned clampdown on vehicles without duty payment.
In its resolution, the Senate said Ali should appear in appropriate Customs uniform. He had responded on a television programme to the Senate stand about him wearing appropriate uniform by telling them to show interest in his work not his dress.
In his letter informing the Senate of his inability to answer the summon, he said he had to attend an NCS meeting. The Customs boss requested that the Senate fix another date for his appearance.
But the Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawann said that reason given by Customs boss was not tenable.
