UBA reverses order on cards use, says it can be used on any site, anywhere
United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has reversed the Thursday’s announcement banning the use of its debit and credit cards in making certain purchases, the bank’s authorities have said the cards could be used on any credible platform and for the purchase of any service the card holder desires.
The UBA authorities had, on Thursday, in an email to its customers said they could not use the bank’s debit/credit cards to purchase certain services or items, such as jewellery, pornography, or betting, among others.
However, using the same avenue of emailing it used for the Thursday announcement, the bank has emailed customers again, this time, cancelling the ban and informing that they are free to use its debit/credit cards in the purchase of desired goods and services as are guaranteed by applicable laws.
The new email, signed by Executive Director, Group COO, Mr. Chukwuma Nweke, reads: In our relentless bid to continuously provide excellent services to our customers, we work hard to protect your transactions and Identity.
We recently sent you correspondence indicating that your cards would be protected from certain risky sites.
We have listened to you and have heard that this is not in line with your expectations. We have immediately made adjustments accordingly.
Please be informed that all sites have been unblocked and you can now transact on any platform globally that you would like to whilst we continue to provide surveillance on some high risk activity points to protect your transactions.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will continue to work hard to serve you better.
Sincerely,
Chukwuma Nweke
Executive Director, Group COO.
