For PDP to reclaim lost glory, Akinbade calls for dedication, honesty of purpose, discipline and forgiveness
People Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart and former Secretary to Osun State Government, Engr Fatai Akinbade has said that it will require dedication, honesty of purpose, discipline and forgiveness for the party to regain its lost glory.
He said this in his remarks at Unity Dinner organised by the Osun State PDP Caretaker Committee held on Wednesday, 11th October, 2017,at Atlantis Event Centre, Osogbo.
He urged the party faithful to “forget those things that divide us and concentrate on things that make us strong and indivisible.
“Surely, nobody claps with one hand. For us to regain our lost glory, it will require dedication, honesty of purpose, discipline and forgiveness. Simply, it is when we are united that these people presently at the helms of affairs can be dislodged”.
The Full Speech:
I am indeed very happy to be part of this historic event aimed at fostering the much needed peace in our great party, the PDP. There can never be a better time than now to have this type of gathering.
In the words of Mattie Stepanek; “Unity is strength…. When there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved”
Taking up from Stepanek’s point of view, there is no denying the fact that before, during and after the 2015 Presidential election, the PDP was enmeshed in crisis across the country.
This actually afforded the opposition, particularly, the APC, the opportunity of capitalising on the gaping holes, in taking over the power from us.
The APC at the federal and state levels has misused this opportunity by not offering the nation and its people the right leadership, division within our ranks, caused their emergence in the first instance.
Since their foray into the nation’s helms of affairs, it has clearly been known to Nigerians that they, ( the APC),were not prepared for governance; they have been acting as opposition, forgetting they are already in government.
The clear message of their ineptitude should be a wake-up call for all and sundry within the PDP fold across the country that it is high time we took over from them.
This can only happen if we can bury our prides; forget those things that divide us and concentrate on things that make us strong and indivisible. Surely, nobody claps with one hand. For us to regain our lost glory, it will require dedication, honesty of purpose, discipline and forgiveness. Simply, it is when we are united that these people presently at the helms of affairs, can be dislodged.
Our story in Osun is not different. The advent of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as the governor of our dear state, has not spelt any good for our people as they have continued to reel in pains and hunger. The state has been helplessly driven to the cesspit of debts, mis-governance and lack of definable direction.
Once again, the untiring efforts of the Osun State PDP Caretaker Committee led by Chief Sarafadeen Isola in concert with the National Committee Chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, towards ensuring we are united, are commendable.
This is even more instructive if one considers the painful feelings of our people in Osun State who are yearning for a change, having suffered on all fronts under Aregbesola’s administration.
2018,the year designed for our own election is around the corner. As a result, I want to beg us in the name of Almighty God that we should not allow our individual ambitions to becloud our senses of reasoning as to forget the suffering of our people. A day’s mistake at the polls, will be equal to another four years of hardship. May God lead us aright.
In achieving results and reaching our desired promised land, we all have good roles to play -unity is the word. Any family where unity is missing, such family will be in tatters.
For us as a family in the PDP to be successful at the coming polls, we have to forge a common front.
While thanking the organisers of this wonderful event, I want to conclude by drawing inference from Publius Syrus’ sayings that “where there is unity, there is always victory”.
Thank you and God bless.
Long live PDP
Long live Osun State
Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria.
