Osun PDP Primaries: Akinbade tasks leaders on instinctive leadership
- Insists he’s not a poor man
“If they tell you I don’t have money to prosecute the forthcoming primary election of our party, tell them Akinbade is not a poor man. Tell them wealth is never written on the forehead of anyone. Walahitalahi, I am not a poor man”
These were the words of Alhaji Fatai Akinade Akinbade, an Osun State PDP governorship aspirant, while briefing party leaders and delegates in Ejigbo, Egbedore and Ede South local government areas of the State, on his focus and readiness for the July 14, 2018 governorship primaries of the party, as well as the September 22 governorship election in the State.
Akinbade also appealed to leadership of the party at all levels in the State to pray for divine wisdom in electing an acceptable governorship candidate for the party, saying, decisions made at this period are critical to the survival of the party and the State in general.
He took the delegates down the memory lane when late S.M Afolabi’s ingenuity as the then leader of the party, in collaboration with other stakeholders of the party, led to the success of Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola at the primaries who went ahead to defeat Chief Bisi Akande of the AD in almost all the wards and polling units at the 2003 governorship election in the State.
The three times commissioner for Works under three successive military administrators in Osun State assured the delegates that, several election winning bigwigs from other political parties in the State have pledged to move en mass into the PDP fold in the event of his emergence as Osun PDP governorship candidate.
“As an aspirant with vast knowledge of the workings of a responsible government, I’m sure I am in the best stead to right the wrongs of the clueless Aregbesola/APC government in the State” Akinbade maintained.
Responding to the various demands of party faithful at the meeting, Akinbade reiterated his commitment to immediately see to rehabilitation of Ede-Kuta road because of its agricultural importance, with a pledge to also encourage mechanised farming in the State in order to boost sustainable food production for the benefit of the people.
He pledged to revive the vision behind the establishment of Free Trade zone in the State, where small and medium business enterprises would be encouraged to thrive, as this, according to him, would drastically reduce the present level of poverty borne out of ash economic policies of the ruling Apc in the State.
Amidst persistent chants of ‘Akin Omo Akin’ (the brave son of the brave) by handful of his supporters who accompanied him on the consultative tour, Akinbade told the delegates for the umpteenth time that he has weighed the financial implications of going into a political contest of this nature and he’s therefore prepared to run the process to a logical and successful conclusion.
He enjoined other aspirants in the party, in the interest of the suffering masses of Osun State, to embrace peace and accept the will of God as only one among the them, is destined for the crown in the end.
