PDP: Oyinlola rues loss of Ekiti
…warns, “Only an acceptable candidate can win Osun”
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Prince Abimbola Oyinlola, has lamented the loss the party suffered at the just concluded Ekiti State Governorship election which saw the All Progressive Congress’ candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
To avoid the same pitfalls in Osun PDP, especially with the state governorship election slated for September, this year, around the corner, Oyinlola warned of the dire consequence of fielding an unpopular candidate to face the APC at the polls.
“What has happened in Ekiti State Governorship election, especially as we gear up for our own primary aimed at electing a candidate that will fly our party’s flag at the coming polls, should be an eye opener to all of us”
Oyinlola noted in a statement that though all the aspirants eyeing the coveted governorship seat were qualified, not all of them were popular with the electorate who are the eventual voters
“Seriously, our take home lessons from the Ekiti loss, should be a deep reflection and how we can avoid the same mistakes. The only antidote that can guarantee us victory at the coming polls, is the presentation of a popular and acceptable candidate to the voting populace” he admonished
The Prince of Okuku in Odo-Otin Local Government area of the state, said though there was a crack in the camp of Osun APC as occasioned by an alleged plans to foist on them an unpopular candidate, he warned that the seeming division in APC should not be taken for granted.
“Rather, we should gird our loins by giving the people of the state the best and an acceptable candidate they have been expecting from us. We must not bungle this golden opportunity through any shenanigan. Generations will not forgive us if we do” he further warned
According to him, the outcome of the Ekiti election should not discourage party members and stakeholders but should rather serve as the needed verve that would enable the party to forge ahead in its march towards reclaiming Osun from the grip of the APC
He appealed to the teeming supporters of the party across the state, particularly the delegates, to remain focus so as to ensure they vote massively at the coming primary for a candidate such as Akinbade with a view to enabling him fly PDP’s flag at the September polls.
In the interim, Abimbola has implored party members and the people of the state not to be discouraged by the outcome of the Ekiti election, assuring that his candidature would guarantee victory for the party.
“Without sounding off, with the veritable platform of our esteemed party, the PDP, it’s candidature of Akinbade that many people in Osun are waiting for. Together, I believe, we can make it a reality” he added
