Don’t excuse herdsmen in Fasoranti’s daughter death – Ohanaeze
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, has said that the murder of Funke Olakunrin, the daughter of Chief Fasoranti, could throw the country into great unrest.
The group, in a statement by Nnia Nwodo, the president general of the group, said that the continued inability of security forces in the country to bring criminals to justice is a source of worry,
Nwodo also said that the comment by the federal government that robbers and not herdsmen killed Fasoranti’s daughter worsened the whole situation.
He added that the atrocities by armed men in the country reached its peak with the killing of the woman.
“The continuous rampaging, plunder, rape, kidnapping and murder of innocent Nigerians by armed herdsmen has climbed to a most worrisome crescendo.
“The inability of our security forces to disarm and prosecute these criminals gives credibility to a growing story of collusion,” said.
The group also said that government was hasty in concluding that that the victim was killed by armed robbers.
He said in the statement: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo warns that this latest murder is capable of throwing our country into uncontrollable break down of law and order.
“The hasty conclusion by the federal government that she was killed by armed robbers and not the suspected herdsmen who are known to have laid siege on all parts of the country perpetrating acts of banditry and killings further exacerbates the already tense situation.”
Ohanaeze also offered their condolences to the bereaved family, adding that the political leaders must come together to confront the security challenges in the country.
