Xenophobia: Nigerian lawmakers to cut short recess over killings in South Africa
There are indications that members of the Nigeria’s House of Representatives will be cutting short their four-week recess to address the killings of the country’s citizens in South Africa.
This announcement was made by the speaker of the House, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, who is currently out of the country in Tanzania for the 50th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPA).
The speaker did not, however, give details of the direction the debate could swing. He simply said the session would be for a day and that this is after the leadership of the House would have agreed for the recess to be cut short.
He said on his twitter handle on Tuesday: “Will be cutting short my trip to Tanzania for the 50th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference @CPA_Secretariat and will be leaving today, for the leadership of the @HouseNGR to consider cutting short the recess and reconvening for one day to address the killings of Nigerians in SA”.
