NYSC seeks adequate security for corps members on election duties in Bayelsa
The National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) had urged government and people of Bayelsa to provide maximum security for corps members that would serve as ad hoc staff during the Nov. 16 governorship election in the state.
NYSC DG, Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, made the plea during a stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday in Yenagoa.
NYSC Spokesperson, Adenike Adeyemi, said in a statement that the stakeholders meeting was attended by Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, gubernatorial candidates, representatives of political parties, traditional rulers and security agents, among other stakeholders.
According to the NYSC DG, corps members are national assets that deserve maximum protection from all Nigerians.
He added that corps members were non-partisan electoral umpires that are always ready to contribute their quota to national development.
‘l want to urge you to cooperate with and protect them during the election,” he said.
Also in attendance at the stakeholders’ meeting was Chairman, Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers Council, King Alfred Diete-Spiff.(NAN)
