Sowore re-arrested, wrestles with DSS officer
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Friday morning rearrested the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, less than 24 hours after he was released on the order of an Abuja based Federal High Court.
Operatives of the DSS stormed the court premises on resume trial of Sowore and his co-accused Olawale Bakare and whisked them away amidst protest from lawyers and friends of the accused.
Although the arrest of the duos was resisted by lawyers and others within the court premises, the about 100 armed operatives of the DSS swooped on the defendants after Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu adjourned their trial till February 11.
The operatives later bundled Sowore and Bakare out of the court premises in a commando-style at about 10:45 am.
In an interview with Channels Television, Sowore’s lawyer, Femi Falana said he insisted that his client cannot be arrested in the court premises and chose to drive him to the office of the DSS.
He, however, confirmed that Sowore has been detained in the cell of the DSS while he is making frantic moves to recourse to the law to set his client free again.
Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu had ordered the DSS to release Sowore and Bakare within 24 hours on Thursday.
Sowore and Bakare were released on Thursday night, few hours after the judge ordered that they should be released within 24 hours.
