Protest rocks Ijora as Lagos govt update residents on okada, marwa restriction  

Police and protesters clashed at Ijora bus stop following the implementation of the ban on motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles (keke) in the state.

In the viral videos, the Okada riders were seen protesting, attacking bus drivers and passengers.

Some protesters were also seen breaking the glasses of danfo buses.

Jubril Guawat, Senior special assistant on new media to Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu confirmed the disruption of peace at Ijora.

He disclosed that security agencies have been dispatched to the area and arrests have been made.

On his Twitter page @Mr_JAGs, he wrote: “Monitoring Situation on the Ground in Lagos Island, Surulere and Apapa.

“IJORA: Security Agencies on the ground, arrests have been made. The area is gradually returning to normal. Stay safe!

Meanwhile, some residents have decried the situation in the state following the ban of Okada and Keke.

The restriction on Okada which took effect from February 1st seems to be having adverse effects on Lagosians as movement has now become quite difficult, forcing many residents of the state to result to trekking.

Some residents while lamenting the situation appealed to the Lagos state government to come to their rescue.

It would be recalled that the Lagos State Government restricted of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in six local government areas and nine local council development areas of the state.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotosho in a statement said the government had placed the ban due to the havoc the riders cause in those communities.
