Dethroned Emir, Sanusi leads Friday Prayers in Awe

The Former Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II led Friday prayers in the village of Awe, Nassarawa state, where he is currently confined.

Sanusi has been the subject of several headlines since this week began following his removal by the Kano state government amidst much outcry.

The Emir clad in a white outfit reading out prayers from a piece of paper in mosque attached to the Palace of Emir of Awe, Alhaji Isa Abubakar Umar. During his time as Emir, Sanusi also led weekly prayers in Kano.

Earlier today, the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai paid a solidarity visit to the Emir who welcomed him with open arms.

However, Sanusi got a legal reprieve today after a federal high court in Abuja ordered the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the department of state security, DSS, to immediately restore Sanusi’s Freedom.

It will be recalled that after Sanusi was dethroned, he was ‘banished’ from Kano state and confined to a small apartment in Awe, Nassarawa State under heavy security guard. He is not allowed to leave the village.

However, he swiftly filed a lawsuit against the Police and the DSS. Sanusi’s legal team led by Lateef Fagbemi secured a victory today after Presiding Judge, Justice Anwuli Chikere granted an interim order of release after an ex parte application.

The Judge also ordered service of the copies of the court order on the respondents in the matter which include, the IGP, DG DSS Yusuf Bichi, Attorney General of Kano State, Ibrahim Mukthar and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
