Coronavirus: 116 recovered patients test positive again to COVID-19 in South Korea

Over 115 people who were fully recovered from COVID-19 have tested positive again, according to health authorities in Seoul, South Korea.

The Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) on Monday revealed that 116 people had tested positive for the new Coronavirus after they were released from quarantine.

KCDC Director-General, Jeong Eun-kyeong, confirmed that the virus might have been reactivated, rather than the patients being re-infected.

“While we are putting more weight on reactivation as the possible cause, we are conducting a comprehensive study on this,” Jeong told reporters.

“There have been many cases when a patient during treatment will test negative one day and positive another.”

There was a report last week that over 90 people who fully recovered from COVID-19, tested positive again in Seoul, South Korea.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has since announced it would be looking into the recent COVID-19 trend in South Korea.

“We are closely liaising with our clinical experts and working hard to get more information on those individual cases.

“It is important to make sure that when samples are collected for testing on suspected patients, procedures are followed properly,” a spokesperson for WHO told Reuters in a statement.
