Nigerian doctors mourn demise of colleague killed by coronavirus

 

The Lagos state branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has mourned the death of Dr. Chugbo Emeka, who died of COVID-19.

The medical doctor was a private medical doctor who died after being exposed to a coronavirus patient. He was the first medical personnel that would die of the virus in the country.

In a brief statement made available on Thursday, the medical association said it regrets to announce the death of Dr. Chugbo Emeka at the LUTH isolation ward.

“He died on 15/04/2020. He was a Private Medical Practitioner who was exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19.

“We condole with his family and d medical community for this painful loss,” the group stated.

On Wednesday evening, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said it recorded a new death but did not provide more details.

As at the time of filing this report, 12 persons have died among the 407 Covid-19 cases confirmed in Nigeria.
