Liverpool have been crowned Premier League champions after Manchester City‘s defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The triumph ends a 30-year wait for the Reds who last won the title in 1990.
Last year’s champions City were Liverpool’s closest challengers this season but required victory in west London on Thursday night to keep the title race alive.
The 2-1 defeat leaves City 23 points behind Liverpool with only seven games remaining this season.
Chelsea took the lead midway through the first half when Christian Pulisic capitalised on an error from Man City defender Benjamin Mendy.
The American winger, racing out from his own half as Chelsea cleared from a free-kick, was alive to a miscommunication between Mendy and teammate Ilkay Gundogan, stealing the ball near halfway before rushing to the edge of the City box and finishing brilliantly into the bottom corner beyond Ederson.
Kevin De Bruyne levelled the scores with a tremendous 25-yard free-kick in the second-half but Willian sealed the win from the spot after Fernandinho handballed on the goalline and was sent off.
After Liverpool’s dominant 4-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Wednesday night put them within touching distance of the title, Klopp admitted he would be tuning into events at Stamford Bridge but claimed he would not be supporting the home side.
