Court jails businessman for impersonation in Abeokuta

Justice Mohammed Abubakar of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Friday, June 26, 2020, sentenced one Samod Oguntayo to three months imprisonment for criminal impersonation.
According to a press statement by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) signed by its Head, Media & Publicity, Mr. Dele Oyewale, the offence is contrary to Section 22(2) (b) (ii) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention Etc) Act, 2015, and punishable under Section 22 (2) of the same Act.
The 29-year old convict, who claimed to be a businessman, was prosecuted by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the EFCC.
Apart from the prison term, Justice Abubakar also ordered Oguntayo to restitute the sum of USD$650 (Six Hundred and Fifty United States Dollars) to his victim, Cynthia Deison. He equally forfeited his iPhone X to the federal government as proceeds of crime.
