Nigeria@60: Makinde preaches peace
Makinde made the call on Friday in Ibadan shortly after Special Jumat prayers at Oja-Oba Central Mosque, held as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 60th independence anniversary.
Nigeria clocks 60 on Oct. 1.
The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Rauf Olaniyan, maintained that peace and security were paramount to sustain the unity of the country.
He said that people in Oyo State had been living in peace and should continue to be their brother’s keeper, as security of the state was in the hands of everyone.
Makinde congratulated the people of Oyo State and all Nigerians for celebrating the 60th anniversary and charged them to continue playing their respective roles for the growth of the country.
In his sermon, the Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Sheik Abubakr Agbotomokekere, said Nigerians should always give thanks to God, who has continued to preserve the nation.
Agbotomokekere prayed for the success of the administrations of President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov Makinde.
He urged Nigerians not to relent in praying for unity in the country.
