NUJ inaugurates ethics, disciplinary committee to sanitise profession
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi Council has inaugurated a five-member committee to enforce ethics and discipline among members of the union.
Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Umar Said while inaugurating the committee in Bauchi on Tuesday, said the members had been carefully selected based on their track records in the practice of journalism.
He said the committee’s terms of reference included “Enforcement of ethical conduct and adherence to the provision of both the national and state NUJ constitution’’.
According to him, we will summon erring members for disciplinary action.
Responding on behalf of the committee, its chairman, Alhaji Sani Mohammed assured the union that his committee would strive to protect the integrity and dignity of the profession and its members.
“We the members of this committee will conduct the assignment without fear or favour, and protect the nobility and the interest of the profession.
“We have seen the need to sanitise this profession as it ought to be, and that we will do,’’ Mohammed a former chairman of the Council said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other members of the committee are Suleiman Ibrahim, General Manager of NTA Bauchi, Mr Ishaya Maleka, Director of Information, Bauchi State, Ishola Michael, Director of Press to former Gov. Isa Yuguda, and Umar Shira, a veteran Journalist. (NAN)
