Insecurity: Buhari to address NASS joint session on Thursday

President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to address a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, December 10, 2020.

Personal Assistant to the President on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, disclosed this on her verified Twitter handle, @Laurestar, on Monday.

The President is expected to brief the federal legislators on efforts by his government to address the sundry security challenges besetting the country.

“President @MBuhari will address a joint session of the National Assembly (@nassnigeria) on Thursday, December 10, 2020,” the tweet read.

Specifically, the House of Representatives had last week Tuesday invited the President to appear on the floor of the Nigerian parliament to offer explanation on the rising spate of insecurity in the country.

This followed a motion of urgent national importance brought by the Borno State caucus over last weekend’s killing of farmers in the state.

The Senate had also in a separate resolution asked the President to sack his service chiefs.

It would be recalled that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, was in the State House last week to brief the President about the invitation extended to him by the House of Representatives.

After meeting with the President, Gbajabiamila told journalists that the President had agreed to address the National Assembly on the security situation in the country.
