Itsekiri formally announce the passage of Olu, presents Emiko as Olu designate
The death has been formally announced of the 20th Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli, and a new Olu designate presented to preside over the affairs of the Itsekiri nation.
The announcement was made on Monday at the ancestral home of all Itsekiri people, Ode-Itsekiri (Big Warri) by the Iyatsere of Warri kingdom, Chief Johnson Atserunleghe, on behalf of the Itsekiri National Assembly.
Making the announcement at the Assembly of all Itsekiri, the Iyatsere also introduced the Olu-designate, Prince Itieyinoritsetsola Emiko, to the people amidst thunderous applause and jubilation by the people, putting an end to speculations and endless controversies that have dogged the process for selection of the new Olu.
37 years old Prince Tsola Emiko, the Olu designate will be formally crowned as the 21st Olu of Warri at a later date.
With the emergence of Prince Tsola Emiko as the Olu designate, the three month mourning period for the late Olu, Ogiame Ikenwoli has formally begun in all Itsekiri nation with burials, marriages and social events put on hold for the three months period.
