Uphold high ethical standards, honesty – Kwara CJ tells lawyers
The Chief Judge of Kwara, Justice Suleiman Kawu, has reiterated the call for lawyers to ensure higher ethical standards and honesty in the discharge of their professional dealings with the public.
The chief Judge gave the advice while declaring open a one-day seminar organised by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ilorin branch titled ”Continuing Legal Education Committee” in Ilorin.
Kawu who was represented by Justice Adebayo Yusuf, said would not only restore faith but also boost the integrity of the entire judicial system.
He expressed worry over unethical practice by some lawyers.
Kawu advised them not to allow the love for material gains lure them into shielding illegal activities of their clients.
In his paper titled:”Rethinking Ethical Values in the practice of Law: The Role of Lawyers”, Yusuf Ali, SAN urged lawyers to build their practice on the existing ethics of the profession.
He said that ethics and professional responsibilities are inherent part of practicing law, whether as a Barrister or Solicitor.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of NBA Ilorin Branch , Mr Abdulganiyu Bello advised lawyer to constantly improve their knowledge to meet modern challenges.
