Only 2.5% of Nigeria’s agricultural land cultivated – Presidency

The Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Mohammadu Buhari has revealed that only about 2.5 per cent of lands available for agricultural purposes in the country are utilised.

He disclosed this while fielding questions from some journalists concerning the President’s Sallah message to the country, Tuesday at President Buhari’s Daura residence in Katsina State.

In his Sallah message, to the nation, President Buhari urged Nigeria citizens to work hard and embrace agriculture as about 97 per cent of agricultural land in the country are not being utilised.

“The President has been advised by the Economic Advisory Council that only 2.5% of agricultural land in the country is under cultivation. So, over 97% of land is available. Therefore, there is no reason why people should not take to Agriculture,” Garba Shehu said.

He equally appealed to Nigerians to fish out the evil doers among us to tame the insecurity situation and restore peace to the country.

“There is insecurity because there are evil people who live in our midst. Communities must fish them out so that we will bring peace to all parts of the country,” Garba Shehu.
