Osun 2022: Caution your children against thuggery, Babayemi implores parents
Omooba Dotun Babayemi, the Osun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, has appealed to parents, especially the women, to caution their children and wards against being used as instruments of disruption and violence during the forthcoming state gubernatorial election slated for July 16, this year.
Besides, Babayemi has assured that when he assumes office, his administration would be gender sensitive and friendly by ensuring that women play active role in governance of the state.
According to a press statement on Tuesday by Mr. Kayode Oladeji, Director of Media, Omooba Dotun Babayemi Campaign Organization, Babayemi stated these during a meeting with a select group of women who called on him on Monday at his GRA, office in Osogbo.
The governorship hopeful admonished them to warn their children not to be used as thugs during election; stressing, “Our youth are our future and as such, we should not allow them to be used for disruptive purposes. This is because in the past, many of them have been lost and wasted through such avoidable paths”
Babayemi noted that women’s role at ensuring that the country’s democracy is firmly entrenched, cannot be ignored. “No constituency is as important as that of women in any political setting. Their influence can never be underestimated” he stressed.
As a result, the gubernatorial candidate assured that the PDP administration under his watch in the state would ensure that women were taken care of; adding, “Our government shall be a government that would recognize efforts. Our women will occupy a pride of place in our administration”
On the fate of PDP due to the ongoing legal battle, he assured them that he would triumph, expressing the optimism that he would be sworn in as the new governor in November, this year.
He then called for unity of purpose among members of the party across the state, assuring that he was already reaching out to the few aggrieved members of the party.
Earlier, Honourable Fausat Sarumi who spoke on behalf of the women, assured him of their readiness to work assiduously at ensuring that he succeeds at the polls, adding that they would soon commence house-to-house campaigns.
