ICAN celebrates Pa Akintola Williams at 103
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has joined a host of others to celebrate the Doyen of Accountancy in Nigeria, Pa, Akintola Williams on the occasion of his 103rd birthday.
Pa Williams who was born on August 9, 1919, is the first African to qualify as a chartered accountant and the foremost chartered Accountant in Nigeria.
He is one of the founding fathers of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), as well as the founding member and first president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
The erudite has also earned public honours and awards over the years within and outside Nigeria as a testimony to the giant strides he has made in accountancy and towards Nigeria’s economic growth.
Pa Williams younger brother, Rotimi Williams, was also the first Nigerian to be decorated with the title, ‘Senior Advocate of Nigeria’ (SAN). His younger brother also set up the first indigenous Nigerian law firm in 1948 with Chief Remilekun Fani-Kayode and Chief Bode Thomas. The law firm was called Thomas, Williams, and Kayode.
