Lagos slashes BRT fare, plans food banks
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday, announced a 50 per cent slash in the fare of all state-run commercial vehicles for the next one week.
The governor said the measures were to cushion the effect of fuel crisis and cash crunch in the state, while commending the judiciary for the pronouncement on the deadline for new Naira bills.
Sanwo-Olu, in his address to Lagosians on the lingering fuel and cash crises in the country, said the state government halted construction works on Ijegun Egba road to enable fuel tankers dispatch the product.
He also said food banks would be set up in some locations across the state to distribute foodstuff to Lagosians.
The governor thanked Lagosians for their understanding, patience and resilience during this difficult moment, appealing to them to continue to be peaceful.
He warned unruly persons against wanting to use the crisis to foment trouble.
