Presidential Election Tribunal: PDP accuses APC of plotting compromise

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was plotting to influence the judiciary into doing its bidding in the pending presidential election petition before it.

The party urged the judiciary not to budge under APC pressure but instead discharge its constitutional duties as an independent and impartial arbiter.

Mr Debo Ologunagba, spokesman for the opposition party, raised the alarm at a news conference on Sunday in Abuja.

Ologunagba claimed that there was a groundswell move by the APC and President-elect Bola Tinubu to compromise judges at the tribunal with heavy financial inducement.

The plotters, the PDP further alleged, were also plotting to orchestrate trumped-up allegations of impropriety against nonaligned judicial officers.

Ologunagba advised APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against steps to hinder the ability of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to dispense justice in the matter in accordance with the law.

“The only way to guarantee peace, unity and stability of our nation is to uphold the will of the people as expressed at the Polling Units in the February 25, 2023, Presidential election.

“The PDP is confident in the ability of the judiciary to discharge its constitutional duties in this regard independently,” Ologunagba said.
