Senate confirms reappointment of Dabiri-Erewa as NIDCOM CEO

The Senate on Tuesday, confirmed President Muhammadu Buhari’s nomination of Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa for re-appointment as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).

Her confirmation was a sequel to the presentation, consideration and adoption of the report of the Committee on Diaspora and NGOs by the Chairman, Nanchi Michael.

Nnachi, while presenting the report, said the nominee possesses the technical and academic qualifications to function optimally and effectively in the position.

He said there was no petition, adding that the nominee sponsored the bill for the establishment of NIDCOM when she was a member of the House of Representatives.

Nnachi commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the re-appointment given the excellent performance of the nominee in her first term.

Similarly, the Red Chamber also confirmed the appointment of three nominees appointed as board members of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) by President Buhari.

Their confirmation followed the presentation, consideration and adoption of the report of the Committee on NDDC by the Chairman, Senator Amos Bulus.

The nominees whose appointments were confirmed by the lawmakers include, Benard Oboatarihieyeren Okwumagba representing Delta State, Patric Aisowieren representing Edo State, and Kyrian Chidiebere Uchegbu representing Imo State.

Also, the Senate has confirmed the nomination of Mrs Funke Opeke for appointment as a member of the Universal Service Provision (USP) Board following the presentation and consideration of the report of its Committee on Communications.

Meanwhile, the Senate also, on Tuesday, passed two Bills following the consideration of the report of its Committee on Establishment and Public Service.

They are the Bill to Establish the Nigerian College of Taxation and Fiscal Studies, as well as the Bill to Establish the Parliamentary Welfare Programme for the purpose of caring for the well-being of former members of the National Assembly.
