Makinde submits end of tenure asset declaration form, says he is been poorer in the last four years
Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde has submitted his end of tenure asset declaration form and claimed said he has been poorer in terms of asset than he was in the last four years.
Makinde said he has lost about 12 per cent of the assets he declared in 2019.
He said the loss was due to his inability to manage and focus on his personal businesses while governing Oyo State.
Makinde spoke while fielding questions from reporters shortly after submitting his end of tenure asset declaration form and obtaining a fresh one for a second term in office at the Oyo State Office of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) on Friday.
Despite the loss however, the Governor said he has no regret serving the State, assuring that the details of the loss and his new asset details will be made public soon.
Makinde said: “Statutorily, you have to declare your asset on assumption of office and end of tenure. Since one tenure is ending, and by law I have to do the declaration of asset before assuming office for the next tenure.
“So, I came in here to submit my end of tenure form for the end of tenure for the first term, asset declaration and also to declare my asset at the beginning of second tenure.
“I believe that you are all aware of my declaration for the first tenure. I can tell you that in four years, I am poorer. I am serious because I have not really had the time to look after my business, I have been looking after Oyo State business and I am not surprised that there were losses a bit here and there, but I am still okay.”
When asked on the percentage of loss, the Governor said: “It’s actually about 10 to 12 percent poorer. The details of the loss will be made available to public in due course.”
Makinde declared assets worth N50bn on May 28, 2019.
His assets declaration form was marked OYSE/2019/001 at the time.
