Airtel launches 5G network in Nigeria, reveals city lineup
Airtel Nigeria, one of the leading mobile network operators in the country, has officially launched its services powered by fifth-generation (5G) technology.
By this, Airtel becomes the third operator to offer this technology in the country.
With the advent of 5G, users can expect lightning-fast data services that have the potential to redefine various sectors of the economy, including medicine, agriculture, and more.
The introduction of this advanced network is poised to transform the way we access and utilise information, opening up endless possibilities for innovation and growth.
The first to pioneer the launch of 5G services in Nigeria was MTN Nigeria. It was followed by Mafab Communications.
Femi Oshinlaja, the Chief Commercial Officer at Airtel Nigeria, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch. He revealed that 5G services would initially be available in four major cities: Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, Ogun, and Rivers States. However, he assured the public that services would gradually expand to cover other regions of the country.
5G represents the fifth generation in mobile network technology, following after its predecessors, including 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. This global wireless standard introduces a network that aims to connect virtually everyone and everything, from machines and objects to various devices.
The key features of 5G wireless technology are its ability to deliver multi-Gbps peak data speeds, ultra-low latency, enhanced reliability, massive network capacity, increased availability, and a more consistent user experience.
