Three Ondo hospital workers nabbed over baby’s missing placenta
The Ondo State Police Command have arrested three hospital workers over the missing placenta of a newborn baby.
According to the Ondo Police, the incident occurred at the Comprehensive Health Centre, Emure-IIe, in the Owo Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The three hospital workers who were nabbed by the Police include a nurse, a health assistant and a security guard.
The Ondo State Police spokesperson, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that the three hospital staff involved were arrested after the baby’s father, Tunde Ijanusi lodged a complaint about the incident at the Emure-Ile Police Division H.
Odunlami-Omisanya said that Ijanusi expressed shock at the inability of the hospital workers to produce his baby’s placenta.
The 23-year-old father also wondered why they could be “so careless” with their job to the extent of not knowing the whereabouts of his baby’s placenta.
The baby’s paternal grandmother, Funmilayo Ijanusi, was alleged to have revealed that the health workers said a dog was responsible for the missing placenta.
According to her, the three hospital workers said the dog came into the premises of the Emure-IIe Health Centre and took away the baby’s placenta.
Meanwhile, Odunlami-Omisanya noted that a 19-year-old nursing mother gave birth to a baby girl at the health centre on June 15.
She further said that when the father of the baby asked for the placenta, the nurse and her assistant could not produce it.
According to the spokesperson, the two health workers and the security guard on duty have been invited by the police with the case under investigation at the Emure-Ile Division.
