Police arrest two for burying 20-year-old man alive in Zaria

The Kaduna State Police Command has apprehended two suspects in Zaria, who allegedly buried a man alive, for attempted murder.

The arrest followed a viral video showing the victim, Abubakar Aliyu, 20, from Gauraki village, with only his head exposed after being buried.

The Command’s PPRO, ASP Mansir Hassan in a statement said the incident began when Aliyu was accused of stealing a phone belonging to one of the suspects, Abdullahi AbdulKadir.

The PPRO explained that both AbdulKadir and his brother, Yahaya AbdulKadir, had worked with Aliyu at a construction site in Abuja.

He said that when the phone went missing, the workers decided that Aliyu’s wages would be used to replace it. Feeling unjustly accused, Aliyu returned to Zaria.

“On August 10, 2024, the suspects traced Aliyu to Zaria, forcibly abducted him, and buried him in a shallow grave, leaving only his head exposed. The victim was rescued after a passerby heard his cries and alerted the authorities.”

ASP Hassan however stated that the Commands will launch thorough investigation into the incident and prosecute those responsible for the attempted homicide.
