Nigeria@64: Tinubu announces 30-day youth confab

 

President Bola Tinubu has announced plans for a National Youth Conference, set to take place over 30 days, as part of his administration’s broader agenda to empower Nigeria’s youth.

Speaking in a national address to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary on Tuesday, he informed that the conference aims to tackle key issues such as education, employment, innovation, and security, giving young people a platform to contribute to national policy discussions.

The president also highlighted ongoing youth-centric programs, including the Technical Talents Programme and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which aim to equip young Nigerians with skills and access to education.

As a mark of recognition for public service, Tinubu announced national honors for key members of the National Assembly leadership, including the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“As is the tradition, the government will soon announce all the beneficiaries of our national honours for 2024.

“The Senate President and the Chief Justice of the Federation have been conferred with the honour of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). The deputy Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives have the honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR), while the deputy speaker of the House has been awarded Commander of the Order of Niger (CON),” he announced.

He emphasised that national unity is essential for economic prosperity, urging Nigerians to work together to overcome current challenges.

Tinubu concluded by urging Nigerians to stay resilient in the face of current hardships, noting: “Better days are ahead of us,” he declared, expressing confidence that with collective effort, Nigeria will emerge stronger, more prosperous, and more united.”
