President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for a sustained collaboration and cooperation between Nigeria and South Africa to drive the development and progress of the African continent.
He spoke as co-chairman at the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC). Tinubu emphasised the shared responsibility of the two nations to lead Africa towards a brighter future.
Highlighting the longstanding ties between the two countries, he noted that successive governments in Nigeria and South Africa have consistently recognised the importance of their partnership.
Tinubu stressed that the bond between the two nations is rooted not only in shared history, but also in their pivotal roles as African leaders.
He called for a renewed commitment to deepening the partnership between the two nations under their respective administrations.
Tinubu described the collaboration as a historical necessity and an obligation to the African people, underscoring its importance for addressing the continent’s challenges and harnessing its potential.
He said: “Our successive governments on both sides have accorded due recognition to our shared history of collaboration and cooperation.
“We must ensure that the spirit of the collaboration and cooperation between our two leading countries in Africa will intensify and deepen under the leadership of our respective nations.
“This is not a matter of choice, but of destiny that includes a historical responsibility that we owe the African people”, he said.
